Prayer for the Unborn

Composed by Pope Benedict XVI:
Lord Jesus, You who faithfully visit and fulfill with your Presence the Church and the history of men; You who in the miraculous Sacrament of your Body and Blood render us participants in divine Life and allow us a foretaste of the joy of eternal Life; We adore and bless you.
Prostrated before You, source and lover of Life, truly present and alive among us, we beg you.
Reawaken in us respect for every unborn life, make us capable of seeing in the fruit of the maternal womb the miraculous work of the Creator, open our hearts to generously welcoming every child that comes into life.
Bless all families, sanctify the union of spouses, render fruitful their love.
Accompany the choices of legislative assemblies with the light of your Spirit, so that peoples and nations may recognize and respect the sacred nature of life, of every human life.
Guide the work of scientists and doctors, so that all progress contributes to the integral well-being of the person, and no one endures suppression or injustice.
Give creative charity to administrators and economists, so they may realize and promote sufficient conditions so that young families can serenely embrace the birth of new children.
Console the married couples who suffer because they are unable to have children and in Your goodness provide for them.
Teach us all to care for orphaned or abandoned children, so they may experience the warmth of your Charity, the consolation of your divine Heart.
Together with Mary, Your Mother, the great believer, in whose womb you took on our human nature, we wait to receive from You, our Only True Good and Savior, the strength to love and serve life, in anticipation of living forever in You, in communion with the Blessed Trinity.

Merry England?

After reading this report in the Daily Mail, one can only wonder if the happy couple William and Kate have any regrets after their 8 year courtship.
A different young woman in England says this:
‘Neither my GP nor anyone else suggested I might have the baby. I expected to feel relief after the termination. Instead, I felt grief and huge self-loathing. I’d ended a life. ‘Since then, I’ve endured terrible periods of depression. It’s even negatively affected my sex life. It’s as if I’m punishing myself for my actions.’
Although 56 per cent of women say they do not regret their abortions, many are, it seems, beset by a complex amalgam of emotions after them.

Pontifications it's making me wait

People have been noticing Obama’s vanity for a long time. In 2008, one of his Harvard Law classmates, the entertainment lawyer Jackie Fuchs, explained what Obama was like during his school days: “One of our classmates once famously noted that you could judge just how pretentious someone’s remarks in class were by how high they ranked on the ‘Obamanometer,’ a term that lasted far longer than our time at law school. Obama didn’t just share in class—he pontificated. He knew better than everyone else in the room, including the teachers. ” Read it all in the Weekly Standard.

On his Twitter feed, Charles Homans of Foreign Policy writes: "I'm so far back in this crowd I can't even see Jon Stewart jump the shark."
Says it all.
Now everyone go out and vote on Tuesday. Be the Wave! Only two more years till we get to vote out Obama!

Freedom of Religion vs Freedom of Worship

Military Archbishop Timothy Broglio talks about the danger of repealing DADT.
"While the Armed Forces will never oblige a priest or minister to act in an official capacity contrary to his or her religious beliefs,” he noted, “there is the danger that teaching objective moral precepts or seeking to form youngsters in the faith could be misconstrued as intolerance. Then indeed, freedom of religion would be compromised.”
The archbishop also articulated the crucial difference between constitutionally guaranteed “free exercise of religion,” and the much more limited idea of a mere “freedom of worship.” If the military opts to silence many faiths' opposition to homosexuality, he said, their religious liberty would suffer.
“As Catholics,” he warned, “we must be attentive to the protection of our freedom of religion”-- neither subordinating it to the idea of tolerance, nor trading it for the mere “freedom of worship.” If members of the Church do not defend this freedom in the public square, he said, “we may well lose it.”

Eye for an Eye

More on the depersonalization front:
"The Koran gives Muslims the right to judge Christians and kill them with Jihad," he said. "It gives orders to impose religion with force, with the sword. For this reason, Muslims don't recognise the freedom of religion among themselves or others." Said, Antioch Archbishop Raboula Beylouni, addressing a Vatican meeting of Middle East bishops.
Hmmm, "don't recognize freedom of religion", don't recognize personhood.

The Eyes Have It

Three different posts I read on the Internet today. You make the connection.
"I said, 'You mean I don't even get the chance to come in and we do this eyeball-to-eyeball, person-to-person, have a conversation? I've been there more than 10 years," Williams said. He said Weiss responded that "there's nothing you can say that would change my mind." Juan Williams discussing being fired from NPR
TT [Terry Teachout]: Almanac "Why is it that one can look at a lion or a planet or an owl or at someone's finger as long as one pleases, but looking into the eyes of another person is, if prolonged past a second, a perilous affair?" Walker Percy, Lost in the Cosmos: The Last Self-Help Book About Last Night blog
I’ll close with one little point made by my old friend, Dr. Herbert Ratner, (which I’ve never seen written anyplace else). Dr. Ratner said that humans are the only animals that mate face-to-face. Heterosexual sex is a “person-to-person” encounter. Lower animals are all rear-mounters." Musings at 87 blog
Hint: personalism.

Death of Multikulti

Auf wiedersehen! Goodbye Multikulti, hello Melting Pot.
"The so-called "multikulti" concept - where people would "live side-by-side" happily - did not work, and immigrants needed to do more to integrate - including learning German." More Merkel here.

Komen - Planned Parenthood Link

In case you missed this in the Daily Caller:
Karen Malec, president and co-founder of the Coalition on Abortion/ Breast Cancer, told TheDC that Planned Parenthood is complicit in the breast cancer epidemic for just that reason. According to Malec, it is well established that abortion can cause breast cancer. “Their gifts to Planned Parenthood are comparable to the American Lung Society giving funds to Brown and Williamson Company…..to screen for lung cancer,” she said.

No toeing the line for Toeivah!

Completely delighted to learn today that long-time, March for Life Pro-Lifer Rabbi Yehuda Levin is working on Carl Paladino's campaign for NY Governor. Carl, the Anti-Abomination Governor! Love it! Matzav.com reports:
"At a second stop in Brooklyn, K’hal Adas Kashau in Williamsburg, Paladino blasted his opponent, Democrat Andrew Cuomo, for marching in the annual toeivah pride parade, saying he would not do so, and attacked school curricula that teach tolerance of the toeivah lifestyle.
“I don’t want [children] brainwashed into thinking [toeivah] is an equal valid and successful option,” according to reports.
Stop the toeivah! Stop the brain-washing!

Buck up, sez Pope!

Only 28 days until Election Day!
No, actually, this is what he said in Palermo, Italy this weekend: "The temptation toward discouragement, to resignation, comes to those who are weak in faith, to those who confuse evil with good, to those who think that, faced with often profound evil, there is nothing to do."
"I am here to give you strong encouragement not to be afraid to clearly give witness to human and Christian values," the pope said.... He urged the to resist them "path to death" [[i.e. the Mafia....so come to think of it, he was talking about the elections and Dead Fish Emanuel running for King of Chicago].

Buck Up!

Only 28 days until Election Day in November! Okay, that was the good news. It's been a long hot summer and change is in the air. Too bad there are 764 days until the next Presidential Election.

Imagine his surprise

Al Sharpton not prepared for Americans positive response to the 2nd Amendment. Hat tip: Radio Equalizer via Instapundit.
SHARPTON (4:52): I would say 90% of the calls I received yesterday were in support of the Supreme Court and people say they want to bear guns. They’re tired of the violence and it’s very very interesting. I have had a few on both sides today, but yesterday was overwhelming, it was stunning to me.

Prayer and Thanksgiving

Did you pray yesterday? Are you still praying today? Note that important last paragraph. Are you giving thanksgiving?
WHEREAS, Alabama is suffering from an unprecedented disaster caused by the explosion and sinking of the BP Deepwater Horizon and its aftermath, a disaster that threatens the livelihoods of our fellow citizens, the environmental beauty of our coast, and our quality of life; and
WHEREAS, throughout our history, Alabamians have turned in prayer to God to humbly ask for His blessings and to hold us steady during times of difficulty; and
WHEREAS, citizens of Alabama are urged to pray for the well-being of our fellow citizens and our State, to pray for all those in other states who are hurt by this disaster, to pray for those who are working to respond to this crisis, and to pray that a solution that stops the oil leak is completed soon:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bob Riley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby declare Sunday, June 27, 2010, as a Day of Prayer in Alabama and encourage individuals to pray on their own or with others, according to their own faith, in an expression of faith and hope.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that citizens of Alabama are also encouraged to give personal thanks to God for the blessings we have received and for God’s continued guidance during these difficult times.

Killers AND Thieves

Someone, then, needs to explain to all those people why $2.3 billion in tax dollars have been doled out to an organization that admits to systematically having killed more than 1.8 million pre-born babies between 2002 and 2008 and then reports it only spent $657.1 million in federal dollars. -read more here.

Autism-Vaccine Link: Change points documented

Lifenews has the developing story.
"A new study conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency shows a correlation between the use of cells from babies in abortions in vaccines to an increase in autism rates. The study provides another problem from pro-life advocates who are already concerned about the abortion-vaccine tie.
The study, published in February in the publication Environmental Science & Technology, confirms 1988 as a “change point” in the rise of Autism Disorder rate.
"Although the debate about the nature of increasing autism continues, the potential for this increase to be real and involve exogenous environmental stressors exists," the study says.
The 1988 date is significant because, as pro-life blogger Jill Stanek notes, the Sound Choice Pharmaceutical Institute indicates that's when the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices added a second dose of the MMR vaccine, containing fetal cells from aborted babies, to its recommendations.
The study found two other change point dates: 1981, two years after MMRII was approved in the United States with fetal cells, and 1995, when SCPI says the chickenpox vaccine using aborted cells was approved.
Jim Sedlak, vice president of American Life League, said today that his group is joining SCPI in calling for a Fair Labeling and Informed Consent Act to let people know of this link and the use of cells from babies victimized by abortion."
Here is some abortion-breast cancer link info in case you are new to this study.

Abortion Recovery Month

April is Abortion Recovery Month in Texas and Minnesota.
"Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota noted in their declarations that abortion recovery services are fostering “a culture of life and hope” and playing a critical role in helping women, fathers, and their families cope with the after-effects of an abortion." -Lifesite News

The Concrete NO to Injustice

The Battle of the Martyrs
"The battle of the martyrs consists in their concrete "no" to injustice: by taking no part in idolatry, in Emperor worship, they refused to bow down before falsehood, before the adoration of human persons and their power. With their "no" to falsehood and all its consequences, they upheld the power of right and truth. Thus they served true peace. Today too it is important for Christians to follow what is right, which is the foundation of peace. Today too it is important for Christians not to accept a wrong that is enshrined in law – for example the killing of innocent unborn children. In this way we serve peace, in this way we find ourselves following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, of whom Saint Peter says: "When he was reviled he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten; but he trusted to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness" (1 Pet 2:23f.)."

We are the people who love and defend freedom

Sing it Gloria!
Gloria Estefan at the Calle Ocho march for the Ladies in White. See the video.
And an excellent blog item from Babalu Blog:
"Cubans Hunger For Change. In Miami, tens of thousands of Cuban exiles marched in solidarity with the Ladies in White in Havana. They marched in Boston. They are marching today in Barcelona, and marches are planned in Los Angeles (see Marta's post below), New York, and Madrid.
Cubans are once again making history, and in the process ending the regimes propaganda myth of a divided Cuban people. Whether living in exile, or under castro’s boot heel on the island, there is only one Cuban people, and today they are united in solidarity for freedom and human rights in Cuba. The castro’s and those who support them are on the way to history’s ignoble dustbin."
Freedom is the watchword of everyone who couldn't be at Searchlight today.

"But, as Charles Krauthammer said recently, “decline is a choice.” The Democrats are offering it to the American people, and a certain proportion of them seem minded to accept. The Party of Life vs The Party of Death

"Mr. Stupak and his Democrat followers have now clarified that you cannot be pro-life and be a Democrat. If abortion was truly their biggest issue, they wouldn't willfully align themselves with the Party of Death."
"This vote will expose the myth of the 'pro-life Democrat.' With this single vote, the Democratic Party will divide our nation into the Party of Death and the Party of Life, and future elections will never be the same." -Phyllis Schlafly March 21, 2010

Pray. Pray Now. Pray Hard.

Coming down to the wire. Pray now for the defeat of Obamacare so that a new, just healthcare bill can be constructed, one that recognizes the value of human life from natural conception to natural death. Let us ask this through the intercession of Terry Schiavo.
O God, you gave Terry Schiavo the grace to endure her silent martyrdom, through her intercession grant to our political leaders the grace they need to persevere in the defense of the Culture of Life. Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be
For private devotion.
He said to me, "They are accomplished. I (am) the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give a gift from the spring of life-giving water.
The victor will inherit these gifts, and I shall be his God, and he will be my son.
But as for cowards, the unfaithful, the depraved, murderers, the unchaste, sorcerers, idol-worshipers, and deceivers of every sort, their lot is in the burning pool of fire and sulfur, which is the second death." -Book of Revelation 21:7-8

To Battle Stations

Help Fr. Breslin and the Archdiocese of Denver uphold Catholic teaching on the sanctity of marriage. Here are some action items from Fr. Z.:
1. Right now… now... stop and pray the St. Michael Prayer for Fr. Breslin and Archbp. Chaput.
2. Immediately after pray the Memorare for the conversion of the couple of that child.
3. VOTE in that poll from the denverpost.com .
4. Then vote in the second poll farther down on the right side.

It's not about healthcare

"I've been bandying comparisons with Britain and France, but that hardly begins to convey the scale of it. ObamaCare represents the government annexation of "one-sixth of the U.S. economy" — i.e., the equivalent of the entire British or French economy, or the entire Indian economy twice over.
Unprecedented Takeover
Nobody has ever attempted this level of centralized planning for an advanced society of 300 million people.
Even the control freaks of the European Union have never tried to impose a unitary "comprehensive" health care system from Galway to Greece. The Soviet Union did, of course, and we know how that worked out.
This "reform" is not about health care, and certainly not about "controlling costs." As with Medicare, it "controls" costs by declining to acknowledge them, or pay them." -Mark Steyn, read the whole thing here

Mainstream Media should ponder this

A Polish magazine fined for calling abortion "killing" is now the top selling weekly. H/T Lifesite.

KATOWICE, Poland, February 2, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Catholic weekly magazine. Gosc Niedzielny (Sunday Visitor), published by the Archdiocese of Katowice in southern Poland, and which became famous last year after its editor was fined for calling abortion “killing,” just became the country's best-selling weekly. The magazine has just surpassed the leftist publication Polityka, which held the monopoly on #1 selling weekly for over 20 years.

Abortion can kill you

Not just the baby.
New study links (what we already knew) abortion and oral contraception to an increased risk of breast cancer.
"An April 2009 study by Jessica Dolle et al. of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center examining the relationship between oral contraceptives (OCs) and triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), an aggressive form of breast cancer associated with high mortality, in women under age 45, contained an admission from Dr. Brinton and her colleagues that abortion raises breast cancer risk by 40%."

Oogedy Boogedy prayer intention

Just looking out for one another. Perhaps a few prayers directed Roger L. Simon's way after reading this observation he made after a recent dinner with Texas Gov. Perry:
"I did make one blunder, however. I started to eat before the Governor said Grace. Of course, that’s not surprising, since I am the last of the village atheists (or close). I have to admit I expected to be put off a bit by Perry’s religiosity, but I wasn’t at all. Perhaps that has more to do with me than with him. Although I am agnostic (not an atheist – who could really be one?), I have a growing respect, maybe even an envy, for religious people. And it’s not just because they seem to have better values than most people and often actually seem to behave better. It’s self-interest. The older I get, the more I want to believe in an after-life. (So far no luck.)" - Roger L. Simon

Live Desk/Happening Now folks said they'll be covering Rally for Life at the Supreme Court.
Studio B only aired about 1 minute with Molly Henneberg who was marching along Constitution Ave with the crowd. By comparison, Shep Smith spent about 25 minutes on the story about a dog rescue in Los Angeles. Fox News: ALMOST fair and balanced.
However, around 5:32 pm Special Report did air Molly Henneberg's full package on the Annual Rally, March, and Silent No More Rally at the Supreme Court. Believe there was an interview with Mike Pence.
FOX REPORT had the tease for the Molly Henneberg package around 6:47 pm.
