Forsooth

Actually, we just wanted to tell you about the new online Verily magazine.
Hmmm, is that truly oogedy-boogedy, you say? Well, yes if their claim is true.

RELATIONSHIPS
Women have made great strides in achieving educational and career advancement. Yet in their personal lives, many young women still face confusion as they navigate their relationships with friends, colleagues, family members, or romantic interests. Verily will combine empirical research, real stories, and a best-friend mentality for a holistic and positive vision of relationships to which women can aspire.

A new magazine for women that doesn't treat women as sex-objectives. That's refreshing.
Even the Huffington Post is calling them "the antidote to Cosmo". Sounds good to us.
If you have one of those new-fangled, e-reader things, why don't you check them out.

Bear Each Other's Burdens

Yes, we should "bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ" (Gal. 6:2).
However, we have absolutely no business bearing each other's children. We mean, literally, you can't bear another's child via IVF surrogacy. The London Telegraph is reporting that "gestational surrogacy" is becoming a huge business in India. They write...
There are now up to 1,000 clinics, all entirely unregulated, in the country, many specialising in helping Britons become parents.

Couples and single people are paying an average of £25,000 a time to have children, getting around rules in the UK which make commercial surrogacy illegal.
It is estimated that 2,000 births to surrogate mothers took place in the country last year, with most experts agreeing that Britain is the biggest single source of people who want to become parents in this way. Britain may account for as many as 1,000 births last year in India. In contrast there were 100 surrogate births recorded in Britain last year.

According to NY Magazine, Planned Parenthood is pissed.

According to National Catholic Register, Pro-Lifers aren't pissed. Huh?

Oogedy-Boogedy? Yah, we're pissed. Here's a reminder why.

Silence of the Lamestream Media

Brent Bozell on the silence of major media outlets regarding the HHS Mandate lawsuits....

The evening news broadcasts all but spiked the largest legal action in history to defend our constitutionally protected religious freedom. The May 21 editions of ABC’s World News and NBC’s Nightly News refused to report the fact that 43 Catholic dioceses and organizations filed a lawsuit on Monday against the Obama administration. CBS Evening News gave this historic news a mere 19 seconds of air time.
This is the worst bias by omission I have seen in the quarter century history of the Media Research Center. Every American knows about the Chinese communists withholding for 20 years the news that the US had landed on the moon, because it reflected poorly on the government. Our US media today are no different. They are now withholding news from the American people if it is harmful to the re-election of Barack Obama.

Fr. Norman Weslin

NCRegister remembers Fr. Weslin, Pro-Life Activist:

Joe Scheidler, founder of the Pro-Life Action League, knew him well.
“He … was a leader-type, yet a humble person,” Scheidler said of the former Army officer. “He was a tough fighter, one of the troopers right in with the crowd. I would place him in with the grunts on the front lines. He was absolutely fearless, yet he knew exactly what he was doing.”

Scheidler said that Father Weslin knew he would get a lot of attention at the Notre Dame protest. Because the police were somewhat reluctant to arrest an elderly Catholic priest there, they took a long time doing it. During those minutes Father Weslin was able to give a pro-life witness and sermon on camera.

“He was a tremendous voice for the unborn,” Scheidler said. Noting that the priest was a good friend of the Pro-Life Action League and on a number of occasions celebrated Mass at the organization’s offices, Scheidler added, “I
admire him enormously.”

....His last arrest came for sitting in Nancy Pelosi’s office because he wanted to talk to her about the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and about her soul. ....

Glendon on the HHS Mandate Lawsuit

Mary Ann Glendon writes:
More is at stake here than the mission of all churches, including the Catholic Church, to provide social services like health care and education to everyone regardless of creed, and to do so without compromising their beliefs. At the deepest level, we are witnessing an attack on the institutions of civil society that are essential to limited government and are important buffers between the citizen and the all-powerful state.

Catholics Sue Obama Administration - UPDATED

This just in.....
(CNSNews.com) - The archdiocese of New York, headed by Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the archdiocese of Washington, D.C., headed by Cardinal Donald Wuerl, the University of Notre Dame, and 40 other Catholic dioceses and organizations around the country announced on Monday that they are suing the Obama administration for violating their freedom of religion, which is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution.
The dioceses and organizations, in different combinations, are filing 12 different lawsuits filed in federal courts around the country.

Fortnight For Freedom

Coming to a Catholic diocese near you....

On April 12, the Ad Hoc Committee on Religious Liberty of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) issued a document, "Our First, Most Cherished Liberty,” outlining the bishops’ concerns over threats to religious freedom, both at home and abroad. The bishops called for a “Fortnight for Freedom,” a 14-day period of prayer, education and action in support of religious freedom, from June 21-July 4.
Bishops in their own dioceses are encouraged to arrange special events to highlight the importance of defending religious freedom. Catholic institutions are encouraged to do the same, especially in cooperation with other Christians, Jews, people of other faiths and all who wish to defend our most cherished freedom.
The fourteen days from June 21—the vigil of the Feasts of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More—to July 4, Independence Day, are dedicated to this “fortnight for freedom”—a great hymn of prayer for our country. Our liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power—St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome.  Culminating on Independence Day, this special period of prayer, study, catechesis, and public action would emphasize both our Christian and American heritage of liberty. Dioceses and parishes around the country could choose a date in that period for special events that would constitute a great national campaign of teaching and witness for religious liberty.

Weekend Read

Something to read in between bouts of yard work.

Jay Nordlinger's Oslo Journals  over at NRO [linking to Journal Part IV but be sure to read them all the installments]. A series of reports from the Oslo Freedom Forum, an annual Human-Rights conference. Snippet:
Manal al-Sharif... She’s the young Saudi woman who broke the taboo against driving. She is a heroine throughout the Arab world (and beyond). Here’s something I did not know about her: She was once an Islamist, a supporter of al-Qaeda.
The “turning point” for her, she says, was 9/11. “I saw a man throwing himself from one of the towers. He was escaping the fire. That night, I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t get that man out of my mind. ‘Something is wrong here,’ I thought. ‘No religion on earth can accept such mercilessness and cruelty.’
“So, I saw that my heroes were nothing but bloody terrorists, and that was the turning point in my life.”

Chen Guangcheng to get passport to visit US. Meanwhile, witnesses warn of retribution against Chen's family.

John Allen reports on Life Issues as seen from the European and American perspectives. In our humble opinion...may the American view prevail.
Snippets:
Abortion and gay marriage are "in play" in the States, meaning they're not settled politically, unlike much of Western Europe. In Italy, for instance, voters approved a referendum in 1981 to uphold the legality of abortion in the first trimester, and it's been more or less off the table in Italian politics ever since.

As a result, pro-life Catholics in Europe tend to see themselves as upholding a minority viewpoint unlikely to be translated into law anytime soon. They generally aren't as aggressive politically, and they're also less conflicted about public exchanges with people who don't share Catholic teaching, because they're not as worried about the direct political fallout. .....
There have been some recent efforts to bring a sharper American edge on the life issues to Rome. On Sunday, for instance, a "March for Life" took place from the Colosseum to St. Peter's Square, joined by American Cardinal Raymond Burke and modeled on the March for Life held each year in the States on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision.

Prophetic

March for Life Rally 2009

Drudge Report 2012
Prophetic placard from the 2009 March for Life (the day after Obama's 2009 Inauguration)?
We don't know much about this Birtherism stuff, it's above our pay grade. We're just Oogedy Boogedy clinging to our guns and religion but it does seem that the President is something of a, what do you call it, fake. Using his family background to claim foreign scholarships to Ivy League universities [that's the going theory...why else claim foreign birth?] when he is in fact an American born citizen. Granted Harvard Law School seems to have a bit of trouble identifying the genuine article...first Fauxcahontas Elizabeth Warren and now this faux-Kenyan.

2nd University to Drop Health Insurance

Looks like Ave Maria University is the next to drop health insurance because of the Obamacare HHS Mandate. The whole story over at Lifenews.

A second Catholic college is looking at dropping its health care package for students in the wake of the mandate the Obama administration put in place that requires religious and pro-life groups to pay for birth control and drugs that may cause abortions.
Ave Maria University President James Towey told FoxNews, “We’re studying it right now. My own sense is, I don’t see … how it makes sense for us to stay in this.”

USCCB may sue Obama Administration -UPDATED

US Catholic Bishops are preparing to sue the Obama Administration over the HHS Mandate. Whole story here.
“We believe that this mandate is unjust and unlawful – it is bad health policy, and because it entails an element of government coercion against conscience, it creates a religious freedom problem,” wrote Anthony Picarello, USCCB associate general secretary and general counsel, and Michael Moses, associate general counsel.  “These moral and legal problems are compounded by an extremely narrow exemption that intrusively and unlawfully carves up the religious community into those that are deemed ‘religious enough’ for an exemption, and those that are not.”
UPDATED- And this from Investor's Business Daily:
It's the first shoe to drop in what will be a cascade of such decisions. Franciscan University was able to drop its coverage, but as the U.S. Council of Catholic Bishops has warned, other institutions and charities may be forced to close, sell off their assets or turn them over to secular operators in the wake of ObamaCare's unacceptable mandates and costs.

And so it begins...

Rather than compromise its Catholic values by complying with the federal contraception mandate, Franciscan University has decided to drop its student health insurance.

March for Life Rome Roundup

Reports are slowly coming in...

Edward Pentin of NCRegister has a report

Many young people took part, with most marchers coming from northern Italy, followed by representatives from the center of the country and then Italians from the south, with a large participation of Sicilians. Well represented were also citizens from other countries, especially those where pro-life marches have become commonplace, such as the United States, Belgium, France, Spain, Poland and Germany.
Several prominent Italian politicians from across the political spectrum were also present, including Maurizio Gasparri, Stefano De Lillo and the well-known Egyptian-born convert from Islam, Magdi Cristiano Allam, who is now a member of the European Parliament.
Among the foreign participants were 25 members of the Filipino group Couples for Christ, 13 seminarians from the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, as well as representatives of the Order of Malta, Human Life International, and the Italian head of the Society of St. Pius X. Two Buddhist monks also marched, carrying a placard to end abortion in Tibet.

Catholic News Agency reports

American cardinal Raymond L. Burke led a group of priests in the march. He said it brought back memories for him of "so many marches" in America.
"They serve a very important function," he told CNA, "first to give a witness in our whole country to the inviolable dignity of human life but second, to awake consciences to what is happening."
The cardinal was "pleased" that such an event has finally reached Rome.
"I can only imagine that it will grow and increase every year and that it will be an important part in Italy, as it is in America, for the restoration of the respect for the dignity of human life," he said.

Ambassadors of Liberty

Legatus a national organization of leading Catholic business CEOS has filed a federal lawsuit against the HHS mandate that requires insurance overage for contraception.

“Whether you are a Catholic or Protestant or have no religion at all, the free exercise of religion and right of conscience is our most fundamental human right and must be vigorously defended on behalf of all Americans: or else our Constitution becomes nothing more than a piece of paper with nice-sounding words,” he said.

Legatus has more than 4,000 members, including businesspersons and their spouses from over 2,100 Catholic-run companies. It has 73 chapters in 31 U.S. states and three international chapters. The name for the group comes from the Latin word for “ambassador,” since it asks its members to be “ambassadors for Christ” in their business and personal lives.

Call Her Julia

Originally posted this on March 13th, but let's update this thought experiment, let's call this girl Julia.

Thought experiment for the day.
Let’s say your 18 year old daughter Julia goes off to college with a prescription for birth control pills (a Type 1 Carcinogen*) for her acne or to, you know, regulate her menstrual cycle. Conveniently, it also provides birth control for when she starts hooking up with guys. She’s still taking it when she meets that bum guy she eventually gets engaged to at 26. Finally, they get married at 30. Wonderful grandchild follows despite being related to that extraordinary meathead son-in-law.
So let’s count. That’s roughly 12 years of birth control pills. To put it another way that’s 12 years of ingesting a Type 1 Carcinogen.

Hmm....how many years does a Navy welder have to work in the Navy yard before having enough exposure to asbestos to eventually contract mesothelioma?
Where are the trial lawyers? John Edwards call your office!
P.S. The One Who Will Save Women wants all the gals to have access to free Type 1 Carcinogens birth control pills. Or does it just mean he's in the pocket of Big Pharma?
*Group 1 Carcinogens, ever hear of them? Some Type 1s you might be more familiar with: arsenic, asbestos, benzene (a main ingredient in napalm), cigarettes, formaldehyde, mustard gas, plutonium-239, radioiodines, to name a few.

March for Life Ireland 2012

Here comes everybody!

This summer, the most important date on the pro-life calendar is 7th July. That’s when we hope you join with thousands of others to speak up for the right to life. Meet us at the Custom House Square in Belfast City Centre on 7th July at 2pm!
Ireland - north and south - is one of the last remaining places in Europe where abortion is still illegal. But our unborn children are under threat. Powerful pro-abortion campaigners in Ireland, the UK, European Union and United Nations are attacking our pro-life laws. That’s why it’s so important we show our opposition to abortion. On 7th July 2012 lets do that!
More information here
And here's a little something to start your Monday off right....Life is life,na,na,na,na.
