Pope Francis and the Unborn...and the Unwed

From John Allen on the Pope of Charity:
That Marian angle may also help shape the perspective Francis brings to discussions about divorced and remarried Catholics and people in other irregular relationships. It certainly hasn't escaped his attention that when Mary conceived the Christ child, she was technically still outside wedlock.
Francis recalled the point Sunday in his Angelus address before heading out to Piazza di Spagna.
"When the Angel of the Lord calls her 'full of grace,' Mary is 'greatly troubled,' because in her humility she felt like nothing before God," the pope said. "The announcement [that she would bear a child] upset her all the more, in part because she wasn't yet married to Joseph."
It's hard to imagine that his meditations on that moment haven't had an impact on how Francis thinks about the pressures faced by women and couples in all sorts of situations.

The Dead. Ireland.

His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly
through the universe and faintly falling,
like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead.

The Lowest Countries

The Low Countries are now the lowest of the low.
Belgium approves the killing of real.live.children.

This is just insane. Let us write that again.
Belgium approves the killing of real.live.children.
The Netherlands already has child euthanasia.

The Belgian Senate voted today 50-17 to extend euthanasia to children with disabilities, in a move pro-life advocates worldwide had been fearing would come and expand an already much-abused euthanasia law even further.....The Netherlands already allows children over the age of 12 to request euthanasia with the consent of their parents.
In other news, God is a God of Justice. Will these countries be reclaimed by the sea? What about this giant volcano under Yellowstone? Just saying, how long can this go on?

And a reminder to get on your marching boots for the annual Pro-Life pilgrimage to DC (and don't forget the Walk for Life West Coast).

Friday Inspiration

Just a reminder that the cause for beatification has been opened for  Dr. Jerome Lejeune, the Geneticist who discovered the cause of Down Syndrome.

The Lejeune USA Foundation also publishes a handy Student Guide to Bioethics.

The Gardasil Conflicts of Interest

Gardasil, the Merck vaccine against HPV (Human papillomavirus).

Not a fetal product vaccine (that we know) but it is manufactured by Merck which uses fetal products in the MMR and ProQuad vaccines

Recently the "Katie Couric Show" discussed the topic of vaccine injury from Gardasil. Here is the unofficial transcript .

By the way, Merck also manufactured the recalled Birth Control NuvaRing  and distributed the recalled Birth Control IUD Multiload Radiopaque Cu375 IUCDs

And the ultimate conflict of interest, the former CDC (Center for Disease Control) director, Julie Gerberding, is now the head of Merck’s vaccine division.

A LIFE Conversion

We weren't going to comment on the L'affair Lev-Williams but there is a lesson in this modern day conversion story. [As for the Legion of Christ, our only comment is the sooner the group is finally relegated to the dustheap of history the better.]

Pro-lifers are not unfamiliar with the phenomena of the great Pro-Life leader and their idiot wayward children. Take President Ronald Reagan for example. The loyal Maureen. The idiot wayward Ron Jr and Patti. And the prodigal Michael, now the most stalwart champion of his father's legacy. [A gloss on the family history for sure but you get the point].

The Ms. Lev once wrote, "I grew up Catholic but I left the church with such a door-slamming, bridge-burning attitude that if you'd have told me that when I was 25 that one day all I would ever want to do is go into St. Peter's and talk about God, I would have slapped you silly probably."

We imagine the real reversion was the birth of her son with Down Syndrome. A little child will lead them. Indeed, we are sure that everything her mother, the American defender of Life, Mary Ann Glendon, ever wrote suddenly and shockingly made sense in the light...when her son was "dara alla luce."

So our message is this to all those with their marching boots on the ground who have been slogging it out in the trenches for years, there is hope for the wayward children.

The Monica-Augustine Story plays out even to this day. Pray and fast for the gift of Faith. Prayers are answered. They will come to the recognition that, without exception, life from conception to natural death is beautiful.

Postscript

Scandal...(cough, cough)...something we hope you haven't thought we glossed over it. The devil must find it utterly the delicious, the irony of the Ms. Lev, the Tigress of Italian Art History, teaching young religious and seminarians at the Angelicum, the Dominican University in Rome. It was, after all, the Dominican Thomas Aquinas, the Angelic Doctor himself, who wrote the book on the Moral Theology and what constitutes a scandal. [The Mr. Williams was a purported expert in Moral Theology, a dubious accolade in hindsight]. We hope that the Angelicum and the Rome Experience will take seriously the ancient admonitions about millstones and little ones.

UN targets Kenya's Child-friendly Culture to Reduce Demand for Children
In the early 1980’s, the average woman in Kenya had 8 children. In the last 30 years, fertility rates fell by 44% to 4.5 children, but this fall has not been enough for the Kenyan National Council for Population and Development (NCPD) or the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) which work closely together. In two governmental papers, the Kenyan government, in conjunction with the UNFPA, outlined a plan to reduce fertility by an additional 42% to 2.6 children per woman by the year 2030

Lost Women of China

Hmm...One Child Policy leads to not enough women in China. Fifty Million to be exact.

And a host of other problems per this article in the UK Telegraph.

  • The policy has left China short of 50m women…
  • A Generation of Little Emperors ...Scientists claim it has fundamentally changed the psychology of a generation, leaving them less altruistic, trusting and competitive. And all that pampering has left China with one of the fastest growing rates of childhood obesity.
  • Booming lonely hearts industry.
  • Inflating China's housing market
  • Army of grandparents is growing...
  • Shortage of young workers...The one child policy is leaving the economy short of 140m workers. That will drive up wages, hit profits and push away investment. Citigroup economists warn it could cut 3 per cent off China’s GDP - a slowdown that would be felt around the world.
